The suspicion was raised by a case of transferring the winnings to another person
The incident occurred in 2022, when a player with the initials F.R. allegedly won a $2,500 jackpot on a slot machine. However, it was not the player himself who received the winnings, but another person.
The Indiana Gaming Commission was notified of suspicious activity in 2022 and immediately launched an investigation. During the investigation, the commission determined that it was a case of transferring the jackpot, which is a felony under state law.
Transferring a jackpot in Indiana is a sixth-degree felony. After the investigation, the commission ordered the arrest of R.
The 61-year-old man was arrested on Tuesday and taken to the Vanderburgh County Jail.
Arrested Man Owes Child Support
When questioned, the man said he did not know that transferring winnings to another person was a crime. He confirmed that he had played the slot machine at Bally's in Evansville, but was unaware that his actions were illegal.
According to R., he asked his friend to collect the winnings because the friend had given him money to play the day he won the jackpot. Authorities noted that the men often played together at the casino.
When asked about any child support or other debts owed to the state, the man admitted that he did owe child support, raising suspicions that he may have committed fraud to avoid paying child support.
Police also questioned another man involved in the jackpot transfer. He confirmed that R. offered him money to collect the winnings on his behalf.
However, the man said he was not a friend of R. and did not know him.
While the investigation continues, a case from Indonesia is even more shocking: a man allegedly sold his baby for 15 million rupiah ($955) to spend the money on online gambling. He was arrested after his wife forced him to confess to the crime.
