Following the passage of a bill aimed at changing the gambling law in Bulgaria, almost all gambling advertising will face a ban. This includes advertising on the internet, television, radio and print. In addition, advertising will not be able to appear on buildings.

Details of the Bill

The bill, presented jointly by the GERB-UDS and the Movement for Rights and Freedoms, received the support of Bulgarian MPs, demonstrating widespread support for measures to combat gambling advertising. It not only bans advertising, but also defines places where it is acceptable, including billboards located more than 100 meters from schools, as well as gaming halls and casino buildings.

What to Expect

After the bill is adopted in the second reading, its entry into force is expected three days after publication in the State Gazette. This move demonstrates the Bulgarian government's serious intention to take strict measures to regulate gambling.

Consequences of Violations

Operators that do not comply with the new measures face financial fines of up to 50,000 leva and the possibility of losing their gambling license in Bulgaria. Compliance with the rules will be monitored by the Electronic Media Council, and violations will be referred to the Bulgarian National Revenue Agency for further action.

Additional Changes

Along with the advertising ban, the bill also contains other changes, including increasing the capital requirements for slot machines to be licensed and restrictions on locating them in populated areas.

These new measures form part of a wider campaign to combat unacceptable gambling practices in Bulgaria. The government is committed to creating a more responsible and safe gambling environment for its citizens by adhering to strict rules and regulations.
