A decision to increase taxes on the country's gambling industry to 37% has sparked commotion in the Dutch parliament as the four leading parties agreed to form a coalition government.
Terms of the agreement and new tax measures
The Freedom Party (PPV) presented a “conditional framework” for a coalition government with the Freedom and Democracy Party, the New Social Contract Party and the Farmers and Citizens Movement. They presented a budget supplement outlining new tax measures, including increasing the gambling tax from 30.5% to 37.8%.
Position and opinion
Populist Geert Wilders, leader of the PPV, expressed satisfaction with the agreement, but stressed that the final decision will be taken by the parliamentary parties.
The question of a candidate for the post of Prime Minister of the Netherlands remains open, although Wilders confirmed discussions on this issue.
