The Mirage Casino in Las Vegas, operated by Hard Rock International, is preparing to close for major renovations, but the Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation (DETR) is promising to support laid-off employees through its Rapid Response Program. DETR is committed to providing more than 3,350 employees with opportunities to retrain, find a new job or start their own business.
DETR supports Mirage employees through the Rapid Response Program
DETR is launching a Rapid Response Program for the more than 3,350 employees impacted by the closure of The Mirage. The goal of the program is to provide easy access to resources and services to help employees navigate this period of change.
Staff support
Christopher Sewell, director of DETR, said he is committed to providing one-on-one support to laid-off Mirage employees. DETR plans to host workshops, job fairs and information sessions to help employees find new jobs.
Transition assistance
The Rapid Response Program includes budgeting assistance, health insurance advice and job training. DETR will provide these resources both in person and virtually to meet the needs of a diverse workforce.
Partnership with the state
Governor Joe Lombardo thanked DETR for their partnership with The Mirage and highlighted their overall efforts to support displaced workers. DETR also connects workers with potential employers and organizes job fairs in Las Vegas.
DETR will provide severance packages totaling approximately $80 million to laid-off employees to help ease their financial situation as they search for new jobs.
The closure of The Mirage marks the end of an era for this iconic landmark, which played an important role in the development of the Las Vegas Strip.
