With the Euro 2024 football tournament approaching, the National Gambling Authority (ANJ) has launched a new initiative aimed at reducing the risks of sports betting addiction in France.
The survey found that more than half of the French population plan to follow Euro 2024 football matches, with more than a third planning to place bets.
Football remains the most popular sport for betting in France, attracting 52% of online bets, with more than €4 billion wagered in 2023.
Upcoming tournaments and betting activity
Previous tournaments such as Euro 2020 and the 2022 World Cup have seen significant betting activity, pushing total betting volume for the upcoming Euro to an expected billion euros.
Developed by agency Rosbeef, the ANJ campaign focuses on legal notices in gambling advertising, highlighting the risks of addiction to sports betting.
The campaign uses yellow banners and real-life stories of addiction to highlight the serious consequences of gambling addiction, complemented by information on the Evalujeu website.
Media plan for maximum reach
The media plan includes digital advertising, Snapchat PSAs, radio broadcasts and video clips to reach a wide audience for the ANJ campaign.
ANJ President, Isabelle Falk-Pierotin, stresses the importance of monitoring the practices of gambling operators during major events such as the Euro and Olympic Games, ensuring that positive momentum is maintained in the fight against excessive gambling.
