Following the dismissal of the Gambling Commission's appeal for a split trial, an update on the legal case between Northern & Shell and the Commission confirms that a trial will take place next year.
The judge in the case decided to hold a single trial in October 2025 so that all of Northern & Shell's charges would be tried in one trial. Previously, it was planned to divide the case into separate stages.
Northern & Shell lawsuit
A UK publishing group has filed a lawsuit against the Gambling Commission, accusing it of mishandling the competition for a National Lottery license. Northern & Shell views the process as controversial, particularly in light of the 2022 procurement process.
At a case management conference last week, the judge provided full disclosure of documents and evidence related to the National Lottery contract and tender process. This will allow all aspects of the case to be consolidated into a single proceeding.
In other legal news, the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) has made a national security opinion by focusing on alien hacker and scam syndicates (AHaSS) rather than licensed offshore gaming operators.
