The Danish Gaming Authority Spillemyndigheden has published a report on gambling revenues in Denmark for May 2024, noting a 3.4% decrease in gross revenue compared to the previous year. This month, total gross revenue (GGR) was DKK 571 million ($81.94 million).
Online casinos remain the main gaming segment in Denmark, with gross revenues of DKK 278 million. This represents 48.7% of the total GGR and marks itself as the leading segment of the gambling market in the country.
Dynamics of other segments
Bet totaled DKK 164 million, reflecting a decline of 21.5%, while slot machines collected DKK 96 million, down 2.0% year-on-year. Land-based casinos in Denmark showed moderate growth amid an overall decline. Their contribution to the total GGR was DKK 32 million, which is 3.2% higher than in May 2023.
Slot machines in online casinos dominated with a 76.76% share of the segment's total revenue, followed by blackjack (6.88%) and roulette (6.19%).
Preferences in sales channels
Mobile devices remain the most popular betting channel, accounting for 64.01% of the total, followed by desktop (26.40%) and land-based devices (9.59%). On weekends, in particular on Sunday (17.79%) and Saturday (16.58%), the largest volume of bets was observed.
Groupe Partouche also published its financial results for the first half of 2024, reporting an increase in turnover of 2.3% and gross income of 1.7%, despite a decrease in EBITDA and net profit compared to the same period last year.
