New bans and their reasons
Spelinspektionen, the Swedish regulatory agency, has decided to ban four companies - Itfail Ltd, Teamfail Limited, NewEra BV and Jer-Team NV - from providing their services without the necessary licenses in Sweden. The decision came after discovering that two of the companies, Itsfail Ltd and Teamfail Limited, were offering games with the chance to win or lose "skins" - digital items from popular computer games that can be exchanged for real money.
Such websites do not meet the requirements for a gambling license in Sweden and often do not properly verify the age of users, which is contrary to the strategy of the Swedish Gambling Authority.
The decision was part of the Authority's wider efforts to regulate the market and protect players from the activities of unlicensed operators in Sweden. Recently, such measures have become increasingly common, reflecting the desire for stricter control over the gambling industry.
Precedents and consequences
Earlier this month, a similar decision was made against MRSL NV, adding them to the list of companies banned in Sweden. The decision comes as part of a long-term effort by the Authority that has already led to the banning of operators such as Equinox Dynamic, Alpha Interactive Solutions and Nero Media.
In addition to the bans, the Office has recently imposed a number of fines on companies that violate the law. For example, Kanon Gaming was recently fined SEK 7 million for violations related to insufficient player protection measures.
The Swedish Gambling Authority continues to actively regulate the gambling industry, introducing strict measures against unlicensed operators and providing a higher level of protection for players.
