IGT (International Game Technology) and Churchill Downs Incorporated (CDI) have entered into an agreement with the Malta National Lottery to introduce Historical Horse Racing (HHR) technology. This collaboration marks an important step in the development of the gambling market on the island.
Partnership and goals
The joining forces of IGT and CDI with the Malta National Lottery aims to introduce innovative HHR technology, which has so far been presented exclusively in the United States. As a result of this agreement, the Malta National Lottery will become the first operator outside the US to offer HHR services, opening up new opportunities for the local gaming market.
Initial steps and deployment
As part of the agreement, IGT will own 100% of the HHR gaming floor at the National Lottery's first HHR site, IZIBingo. Exacta Services, a subsidiary of CDI, will power the facility through its Exacta Connect system. In the future, the pair will also support other National Lottery gaming sites across Malta.
HHR's initial offering will include over 80 IGT HHR games on various gaming consoles such as PeakSlant49, PeakSlant32 and Cobalt27. Players will be able to enjoy both HHR versions of popular games and classic IGT games, providing a varied and high-quality gaming experience.
Statements and expectations
Exacta Systems President Jeff Lind expressed his excitement about the new partnership: “We are delighted to announce our new collaboration with IZI Group and IGT in Malta, which is an exciting first step in our international expansion. The flexibility of our Exacta Connect system to adapt to different markets and regulatory environments continues to drive this growth.”
National Lottery CEO Johann Schembri added: “We are delighted to launch the first-ever HHR offering outside the US. This first installation at IZIBingo and elsewhere on our lottery network is the result of extensive efforts and represents a significant step in our mission to drive innovation across the National Lottery's operations.”
Future plans and prospects
In the coming weeks, the Malta National Lottery plans to install HHR systems at its other sites, which will expand its reach and popularize the new gaming technology among local players. IGT Gaming Operations Director Nick Heene said: “Expanding our historic horse racing presence in Malta is a significant growth milestone for IGT and a testament to the quality and global relevance of our HHR content and equipment. By offering players HHR versions of hugely popular IGT games such as Prosperity Link and Cleopatra, National Lottery is expanding its reach of the gaming industry's most popular content in a format that players crave."
The introduction of HHR technology in Malta through IGT and CDI's partnership with the National Lottery promises to significantly transform the local gambling market, bringing new capabilities and innovation. This initiative not only expands the geographic use of HHR, but also demonstrates the commitment of project participants to the development and modernization of the gaming industry at the international level.
Last week, IGT received a contract from the Ohio Lottery Commission to supply the Intelligen central monitoring system for video lottery terminals (VLTs). This event confirms the company's leading position in the global gambling market and its ability to provide cutting-edge technological solutions.
