The American Gambling Association (AGA) has expressed support for new legislation aimed at creating a certification program for employers who train their employees to identify and combat human trafficking. The bill, introduced by Reps. David Valadao (R-CA) and Troy Carter (D-LA), would implement initiatives under the Department of Homeland Security's Blue Campaign.
The bill seeks to create a program that would train employees of companies in the hospitality, entertainment and transportation industries to identify and combat human trafficking. The move is significant as part of the Department of Homeland Security's broader Blue Campaign initiative.
AGA support
AGA President and CEO Bill Miller noted the importance of the new initiative, emphasizing that companies in the hospitality, entertainment and transportation industries must be on the front lines in the fight against human trafficking. He expressed gratitude to Representatives Valadao and Carter for their commitment to this important issue and for recognizing the companies that are committed to fighting this crime.
Congressman David Valadao noted that California leads the nation in human trafficking cases among all U.S. states, which has a significant impact on communities, especially in the Central Valley. He stressed the need to train employees in the entertainment, hospitality and transportation industries to identify signs of human trafficking and save lives.
AGA Initiatives
In January, as part of Human Trafficking Prevention Month, AGA launched an online training program in partnership with RG24seven Virtual Training. This program is aimed at training employees in the gaming industry to combat human trafficking and includes video tutorials and tests. Program participants receive certificates upon completion of training. This initiative is available to gaming companies free of charge, highlighting the AGA's commitment to tackling this crime.
Alex Costello, AGA vice president of government relations, said the new legislation reinforces the importance of employee training in the fight against human trafficking. He urged businesses in the gaming industry to take advantage of the free AGA training as part of their responsibility to society.
The Growth of the Commercial Games Industry
In related news, AGA's Q1 2024 report showed strong growth in the U.S. commercial gaming industry, marking the 13th consecutive quarter of expansion. The report noted significant growth in revenue from both iGaming and legal sports betting, highlighting the successful development of the industry.
AGA's support for new anti-trafficking legislation highlights the importance of corporate responsibility and active engagement in addressing social issues. A new employer certification program and employee training initiatives are key to combating this crime while keeping communities safe and protected.
