The Jamul Indian Village Development Corporation (JIVDC), representing the Jamul Indian Village Tribe, celebrated a milestone in the construction of a new 16-story hotel tower at the Jamul Casino. At a ceremony on Friday, July 12, the final beam of the structure was installed, symbolizing the completion of an important phase of the project.

Ceremony for installing the last beam

The ceremony included a traditional blessing of the building performed by Tribal Elder Kenny Meza. Members of Jamul Casino management and the Jamul Tribe signed the final steel beam, adorned with a Native American village flag, which was then hoisted to the top of the tower. Among those attending the ceremony were Mary Cheeks, president and CEO of Jamul Casino, and tribal council members Teresa Cousins and James Cuero.

During the event, corporate and tribal representatives discussed the current progress of the hotel, its significance to the tribe and future opportunities for guests. The new hotel, which will include 200 rooms, including 52 suites, is expected to open in spring 2025. This will be a major addition to the existing casino complex, which opened in 2016 and features more than 1,500 slot machines, 46 live tables and a poker room.

Economic significance and financing

In April 2023, JIVDC received US$515 million in funding to support hotel construction and other projects. Funding was provided by KeyBanc Capital Markets and several other banks. The new hotel will not only expand the casino's capabilities, but will also support the tribe's goal of achieving economic self-sufficiency by providing new economic benefits and employment opportunities for the local community.

The ceremony concluded with a luncheon for the construction workers involved in the project as a token of gratitude for their work and contributions to this important milestone.

The construction of a new hotel tower at the Jamul Casino is a significant step for the Jamul Indian Village Tribe and its desire for economic development and self-sufficiency. The new hotel is expected to be an attractive destination for visitors, offering modern amenities and comfort, and will strengthen the region's economy by creating new jobs and opportunities for local residents.
