The Australian Communications and Media Commission (ACMA) remains active in its crackdown on illegal gambling sites to ensure compliance with the Online Gambling Act 2001. As part of this initiative, more violators were blocked, including the popular platforms Richard Casino and Wanted Win.

New Blocking of Illegal Sites

The latest sites to be blocked included Richard Casino and Wanted Win, which provided prohibited online gambling services and/or unlicensed regulated gambling services to customers in Australia. Apart from providing illegal services, these sites also posted advertisements that violated the prevailing laws of the country.

Requirements for Internet Providers

ACMA has asked Australian internet service providers to block illegal sites that breach the Online Gambling Act 2001. The measure aims to protect Australian consumers from unscrupulous operators and ensure compliance with online gambling rules and regulations.

ACMA's latest action also includes sanctions against Hubbl-owned sports streaming service Kayo for showing gambling advertisements during live sporting events outside the permitted time period. Specifically, it identified 16 different gambling advertisements shown at 267 live sporting events between 5am and 8:30pm that violated regulations.

Blocking Statistics

Since its inception, ACMA has blocked up to 1,011 illegal gambling sites and affiliates. The list of blocked sites includes platforms such as Jogi Casino, Dundee Slots, Lucky Hunter, Lucky Wins, Lukki Casino, Spin Fever, Clubhouse Casino and Winport Casino. A Big Candy, Jackpoty and John Vegas Casino were also blocked.

During the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup, ACMA cracked down on illegal betting and issued several warnings to operators found to be in breach of the Online Gambling Act 2001. Among the violators were Mad Entertainment (Golden Lion), Paloma Media (Thunderpick), as well as Dama and Friolion (Betibet).

The ACMA continues to be proactive in blocking illegal gambling sites and strictly enforcing the law. This work aims to protect Australian consumers from unscrupulous operators and ensure a fair and safe online gaming environment.
