Kindred Group, together with Swedish operators ATG and Svenska Spel, continues its joint initiative to publish responsible gaming (RG) indicators for the Swedish market. Beginning in the fall of 2022, this initiative aims to increase public awareness and encourage actual discussion about high-risk gambling behavior.
Regular reports and key indicators
Every six months, licensed operators submit data on key responsible gaming indicators to the Swedish Gambling Authority. These indicators include:
- Percentage of clients contacted due to problem gambling.
- The effectiveness of proactive contacts.
- Average reduction in the level of gambling addiction among those who applied.
- Proportion of customers who choose to self-exclude for less or more than six months.
The purpose of publishing this data is to inform stakeholders about high-risk gambling behavior and evaluate the effectiveness of preventive measures taken by operators. The initiative seeks to increase transparency and trust in the gambling industry through balanced regulation, technology, research and human intervention.
Kindred's report for the first half of 2024 found that the percentage of customers who reduced their gaming activity after proactive contact decreased slightly to 76.85%, compared to 78.19% in the second half of 2023. There was also a decrease in the percentage of customers who decided to independently exclude themselves from the Kindred platform.
Kindred, through its Unibet brand, continues its cooperation with the Swedish Professional Football League (SEF) and the Spelfriheten treatment center. The main goal of this collaboration is to educate players and staff on safe gambling practices and early signs of problematic gambling behavior.
Financial performance and behavioral improvement
On the financial side, Kindred reported that the share of revenue from high-risk players was the lowest in five quarters, at 3% of revenue in the second quarter of 2024, down slightly from the 3.1% reported in the same period in 2023. Additionally, 86.8% of players showed behavioral improvements following the intervention, down slightly from 87.1% in Q1 2024 but higher than 86.4% in Q2 2023.
Alexander Westrell, director of communications at Kindred Group, said: “We work hard to ensure our customers can use our products safely. This includes educating customers, stakeholders and partners on safe gambling practices and responsible practices.”
The launch of this initiative underlines the commitment of Kindred and other Swedish operators to transparency and responsibility in the gambling industry.
