The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) continues to actively combat unlicensed online casinos by issuing official warnings to companies operating illegal gambling services. The most recent warnings were issued to Dama NV, Strukin Ltd, Libergos Ltd and Hollycorn, which operate Wanted Win and Richard Casino.
ACMA has issued official warnings to two operators for breaching paragraph 15(2A) of section 64A of the Interactive Gambling Act 2001. This legislation aims to regulate and restrict the activities of unlicensed gambling platforms in Australia, ensuring that Australian players are protected from illegal and unregulated services.
Operators Under Attack
Dama NV and Strukin Ltd, which provide services to Wanted Win, and Libergos Ltd and Hollycorn, which are linked to Richard Casino, have all found themselves in the crosshairs of the ACMA. The platforms were added to the websites blacklist in July for providing prohibited interactive gambling services and/or unlicensed regulated gambling to customers in Australia. They are also accused of advertising prohibited services, which is also a breach of the law.
One example of ACMA taking decisive action is the case of Kayo. In this case, ACMA issued a corrective order to Hubbl, the owner of Kayo, to arrange an external audit of its technical systems and processes. This includes measures taken following the identified breaches. Failure to comply could result in fines of up to AU$626,000 (US$415,585.75) per day, imposed by the Federal Court.
Blocking Illegal Sites
Since its inception, ACMA has blocked up to 1,011 illegal gambling sites and affiliates, working with local Australian internet service providers. The sites blocked include well-known names such as Jogi Casino, Dundee Slots, Lucky Hunter, Lucky Wins, Lukki Casino, Spin Fever, Clubhouse Casino and Winport Casino. Also included were A Big Candy, Jackpoty and John Vegas Casino.
ACMA’s proactive actions to block and warn off unlicensed operators demonstrate its commitment to protecting Australian players and enforcing online gambling laws. These measures are aimed at creating a safe and regulated gaming environment, a key element of ACMA’s strategic plan.
