MP Leong San Yoke and the Macau Federation of Trade Unions expressed concern about the mental and physical health of workers in the gaming industry. In response to these concerns, Leong urged the Macau government to increase the social responsibility of gaming companies in protecting employees and recommended that operators be more considerate of their staff.

Proposed Measures to Improve Conditions

According to Leong’s proposals, a number of steps should be taken to improve working conditions in the gaming industry. These include:

- Adapt to Electronic Trends: Introduce new technologies and platforms that can facilitate work processes and improve efficiency.
- Provide On-the-Job Training: Provide regular training to employees to enhance their skills and confidence in their work.
- Hiring More Employees: Increasing the number of employees to reduce the workload of workers and improve working conditions.
- Increasing Salaries and Benefits: Increasing salaries and providing additional benefits to improve employee morale and ensure their well-being.

Leong emphasizes that employee loyalty and satisfaction are key to the sustainable development of Macau’s gaming sector, which plays a significant role in the region’s economy.

Leong also calls for the government to strengthen oversight of the hiring and contract renewal processes of foreign employees. This demand is related to a recent bribery case committed by a gaming executive, which exposed gaps in the current vetting process.

Additional Initiatives to Support the Community Economy

As part of his proposal, Leong suggested that the government open talks with gaming companies to expand the use of reward points and coupons provided by these companies. The plan is to make these rewards available at a wider range of merchants in Macau, including restaurants, retail stores, entertainment venues and service providers.

This move is not only aimed at stimulating the community's economy, but also at enhancing the social responsibility and economic contribution of gaming companies. Expanding the use of bonus programs can help develop local businesses and improve the quality of life in the community.

MP Leong San Yock's call for Macau gaming companies to protect the welfare of their workers and improve working conditions highlights the importance of social responsibility in the industry. Implementing the proposed measures and improving supervision of foreign employees can significantly improve worker morale, promote economic growth, and strengthen the social responsibility of gaming companies.
