A resident of Australia, living in the suburbs of Brisbane, hit the incredible jackpot in the Powerball lottery, winning about 100 million Australian dollars (approximately $68 million). As it turned out, the lucky woman almost lost her winning ticket.

The largest win in Queensland

A woman living in the Asley area became the third largest winner in the history of Australian lotteries and entered the elite of the most successful participants. In addition, she became the owner of the largest win in Queensland, which gives her additional reasons to be proud.

The lucky numbers drawn in the August 22 draw were 16, 24, 11, 4, 10, 18 and 23, as well as the Powerball number 6. The winning ticket was purchased at the Nextra Chermside newsagents in the Westfield Chermside shopping centre in Brisbane.

Hints were right

In an interview with lottery officials, the winner admitted that she doesn’t usually play Powerball draws. However, earlier this year, she had a hunch that she might be on the winning side. Despite scepticism from her family, she decided to try her luck and prove them wrong. And she did.

According to the Queenslander, she bought the ticket a few days before her birthday, but didn’t pay much attention to it. Soon after, she almost lost the ticket, leaving it in the glove compartment of her car and completely forgetting about it.

After her morning jog, the woman heard news that someone in her area had won a large sum. Remembering her ticket, she checked it and was stunned to learn that she was the winner.

When thinking about her future plans, the woman admitted that her family lives a rather modest lifestyle. She has not yet decided how to spend her sudden wealth, but she mentioned that she would like to travel a little and visit New Zealand and Fiji.

It is worth noting that earlier this year, another Queenslander won AU$10 million in the Powerball lottery. It is also worth remembering the case of an Adelaide player who was shocked to learn that his AU$1,000 win was actually a million.
