On Friday night, despite the efforts of many players across the United States, no one managed to win the Mega Millions jackpot. Not a single ticket matched the winning numbers - the white balls 28, 30, 44, 66 and 69, as well as the gold Mega Ball number 2.
After the last draw, in which again there was no winner, the jackpot continues to grow and is already approaching the impressive mark of $600 million. The next Mega Millions drawing is scheduled for Tuesday, August 27, 2024.
With the jackpot once again not won, $575 million is now at stake. As always, there is an option to claim the prize in the form of a lump sum cash payment, which in this case would be $285.5 million.
A year ago, in August, the largest jackpot in Mega Millions history was won. Then, an incredibly lucky player from Florida won a record-breaking $1.602 billion.
If someone manages to hit the jackpot on Tuesday, it will be the ninth largest win in the history of this popular lottery. It is worth noting that this month is only the second time that the Mega Millions jackpot has reached such a sum in August, since 2002, when the game was launched.
The odds of winning any prize in Mega Millions are 1 in 24. However, the odds of hitting the jackpot are significantly lower - 1 in 302,575,350.
Each ticket in this lottery costs $2. For an additional $1, players can increase their non-jackpot winnings using the Megaplier option.
Lots of Lucky Untied Prize Winners
While no one won the top prize, two lucky players managed to match five winning numbers in Friday's drawing. Thanks to the Megaplier option, one ticket in Tennessee won $3 million, as the Megaplier was 3X in the latest drawing. The second lucky player in Texas won the standard $1 million, matching five numbers.
In addition, 26 people matched four winning numbers along with the Mega Ball in the latest drawing. Of these, five people used the Megaplier option and won $30,000, while the remaining 21 players won the standard $10,000 each.
The combination of four winning numbers resulted in prizes for more than 500 players. In total, 129 lucky players won $1,500 thanks to the Megaplier, while 438 people won $500.
Given the size of the top prize, more people decided to try their luck in the latest Mega Millions drawing, bringing the total number of winning tickets to 1,025,239, surpassing the 945,000 winning tickets recorded earlier this month.
