Famous Houston entrepreneur and gambler Jim McEnvale, better known as "Mattress Mac," has been hospitalized at St. Luke's Medical Center in Texas due to memory problems that he described as "cognitive" impairment. McEnvale, known for his passionate support of Houston sports teams and high-stakes betting on sports, assured his fans and clients that he believes he will recover.

Mattress Mac's Optimism: Health Update

McEnvale, 73, posted a video message from his hospital room, where he said that doctors are running a series of tests to try to determine the cause of his forgetfulness. He shared two scary moments that made him wary: one where he couldn’t remember what day it was, and another where he missed his usual exit ramp, something he hadn’t done in more than 40 years. Despite these scary episodes, McEnvale remains optimistic and praises the medical staff for the care they provided him.

In typical McEnvale fashion, he took the opportunity to promote his business while sharing his health. In his video, he encouraged his followers to check out the Labor Day sale at Gallery Furniture, the Houston-based chain of stores he owns.

Community Support: Mattress Mack Gets Cared For During Hospital Stay

After news of McEnvale’s hospitalization spread around town, he received support from numerous public and political figures. Texas Governor Greg Abbott and U.S. Congressman Chip Roy joined the crowd in wishing him a speedy recovery. McEnvale’s social media posts have also received thousands of comments from people expressing their support and hope for his speedy recovery, further underscoring how valuable McEnvale is to the people of Houston.

McEnvale is no stranger to adversity. He was a hero during Hurricane Harvey in 2017 when he opened his stores to flood victims. For that and his energetic personality, Houstonians love and respect him.

Despite his health issues, McEnvale remains hopeful for a speedy recovery. He believes he will soon be out of the hospital and back with his family, running his business, and supporting his local community. With the football season underway and the Houston Astros enjoying success, he has remained involved in sports events, showing he has no intention of retreating from the public scene.
