The jackpot for the next draw, which will take place on Tuesday, September 10, 2024, is projected to be a staggering $800 million. Even though the cash option will be “only” $401.8 million, it is still a huge prize that could change the life of any winner.

If a lucky player were to hit the jackpot next time, it would be the seventh-largest win in the history of the game. Six previous wins exceeded the $1 billion mark.

The Mega Millions jackpot was last won in June of this year. On June 4, an Illinois player beat incredible 1-in-302.5 million odds to win $552 million. Since then, there have been 27 drawings, and none have produced a new winner.

The record jackpot was won in August last year by a Florida resident. That prize reached an incredible $1.6 billion. The second-largest prize went to a South Carolina player in October 2018 — $1.537 billion. And the third-largest prize was won in Maine early last year, and it was worth $1.348 billion.

Winning Ticket Sales Continue

With each increase in the jackpot, so too do the number of tickets sold. Since the last big win, Mega Millions has sold nearly 21 million winning tickets across various levels of the game.

Of those, 57 tickets were particularly lucky — their owners won $1 million or more. These secondary prizes were spread across 25 states, including Florida, Ohio, California, New York, Michigan, Texas and Pennsylvania.

The latest drawing on Friday saw nearly $1.7 million in winnings across multiple levels of play. Six players matched five of the six numbers to win big.

One lucky player in Ohio doubled his winnings to $2 million using the Megaplier option, while five others in Texas, New Hampshire, Illinois, Florida and California each won $1 million.

Also, nearly 50 players matched the four white balls and the gold Mega Ball in the latest drawing. Of those, 10 people won $20,000 using the Megaplier option, while the remaining 39 players won the standard $10,000 prize.
