The Malta Gaming Authority (MGA) has issued a statement listing several websites with which it has no connection. In the official notice, the regulator emphasized that the data presented on these sites is false.

The MGA specifically noted that none of the listed sites are licensed by the regulator. Any claims of licenses, the MGA representatives claim, are false and misleading users.

User Call: Choose Legitimate Operators

The MGA urged players to be careful and check the licenses of operators before using their services. The regulator reminded that licensed sites are required to comply with strict rules that guarantee the protection of customers' rights. In turn, unlicensed platforms are not required to follow such rules, which creates risks for users.

Particular attention was paid to financial transactions: transactions with unlicensed operators may be unsafe, and payouts are not guaranteed. MGA recommended that customers familiarize themselves with the current list of licensed operators, which is available on the official website of the regulator.

Former MGA Head Farrugia Faces Prosecution

Amid these events, a court in Malta recently confirmed the sentence of Heathcliff Farrugia, the former CEO of MGA. Farrugia was convicted of leaking confidential information to Yorgen Fenech, the owner of the casino.

The investigation began after Farrugia's mobile phone was confiscated in 2019. According to the obtained data, the former MGA head warned Fenech about upcoming inspections of his casino and promised to delay the publication of the results of the anti-money laundering inspection.

Yorgen Fenech, meanwhile, was arrested in 2019 on suspicion of orchestrating the murder of journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia, who died in a car bombing. Although Fenech denies any involvement, three others have already been convicted and sentenced to prison for their roles in the crime.
