France has taken a major step towards responsible gambling thanks to a new collaboration between the national gambling regulator, the Autorité Nationale des Jeux (ANJ), and the National Union of Family Associations (UNAF). This agreement continues the regulator’s efforts to combat gambling addiction and prevent underage gambling.

UNAF expands its capabilities

These organizations are working together to support vulnerable groups and provide the necessary resources to professionals working with these communities. One of the key areas will be the development of tools and materials to raise awareness of the harms of pathological gambling and the dangers of underage gambling. This should strengthen existing measures to prevent gambling-related harm and lead to more sustainable results.

This initiative is fully in line with the ANJ strategic plan for the period 2024-2026. The new partnership will focus on research, publication of information materials, creation of tools to support families and professionals responsible for the prevention of gambling addiction and the prevention of underage gambling, as well as training programmes for professionals and volunteers.

A joint effort to tackle new challenges

ANJ and UNAF intend to strengthen existing local support systems. UNAF oversees a network of almost 6,000 family associations throughout France. The organization also provides advice on budget management and financial education, which play an important role in the prevention of gambling addiction. Through its network of budget advice points, UNAF provides vital assistance to people at risk.

UNAF has long been concerned about the impact of gambling on vulnerable groups, especially minors and those in financial difficulties. The increasing availability of online and physical games puts family budgets and the well-being of individuals at risk. This collaboration aims to counter these threats by offering the necessary resources to prevent gambling-related harm.

This significant partnership coincides with the rapid growth of the gambling sector in France. Despite the increase in overall gaming revenue, the number of active users is decreasing, which may indicate stagnation in the market. ANJ’s strategic focus on safe gambling will help to cope with new challenges such as increased competition and market saturation.

The collaboration between ANJ and UNAF will bring significant benefits to consumers, allowing them to enjoy gaming without risking their health and well-being. Raising public awareness, training professionals and preventive measures will help to cement France’s reputation as a leader in safe gambling.
