Grupo Silvio Santos submitted its license application on August 19, one day before the August 20 deadline for a 90-day priority application period. Operators that apply during this period will have a guaranteed opportunity to obtain a license before the official market launch scheduled for January 1, 2025.

The new TQJ platform aims to leverage Grupo Silvio Santos’ powerful media assets, reaching over 113 million viewers per month, with a daily audience of over 29 million.

Grupo Silvio Santos CEO José Roberto Maciel is confident that the partnership with OpenBet will position TQJ as a leader in the regulated sports betting market in Brazil, building on OpenBet’s experience working with media brands such as Sky Bet and theScore Bet.

“With OpenBet’s experience working with major media brands and government entities, TQJ is in a strong position to offer responsible gambling and new products that will excite players,” said Maciel.

OpenBet CEO Jordan Levin added: “Grupo Silvio Santos is an iconic brand in the Brazilian entertainment industry, and we are honored to partner with them on their new betting brand.”

Benefits of OpenBet Partnership for Grupo Silvio Santos

Grupo Silvio Santos expects that the partnership with OpenBet will help establish TQJ as a leader in player protection in Brazil. OpenBet, which has been on the market since 2023, already works with other Brazilian operators such as Play7.Bet.

OpenBet will provide TQJ with its risk management technology, as well as responsible gaming and anti-money laundering systems. These technologies are developed by Neccton, which OpenBet acquired in June 2023.

With OpenBet’s solutions, TQJ’s platform is expected to be able to handle the high load during major sporting events, while providing players with a comfortable and safe gaming experience.

A new step for the media business in the world of betting

The partnership between OpenBet and Grupo Silvio Santos is just the latest example of media companies’ growing interest in betting in Brazil. In August 2024, MGM entered into an agreement with Grupo Globo, the largest media brand in Latin America, to enter the betting market.

Andreas Bardun, founder and CEO of KTO, notes that such partnerships can be very successful if companies can collaborate effectively.
