Shohei Ohtani continues to amaze everyone with his incredible achievements. On September 19, in a game against the Miami Marlins, the Los Angeles Dodgers player put together one of the most spectacular performances in baseball history. He hit three home runs, stole two bases and scored 10 runs, which contributed significantly to the Marlins' 20-4 rout.

This phenomenal performance cemented Ohtani's place in baseball history as he became the first player to hit 50 home runs and steal 50 bases in a single season, officially joining the so-called 50-50 club. His previous accomplishments had already earned him a spot in the 40-40 club, but this record took his career to another level. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts noted Ohtani’s modesty despite his incredible accomplishments, emphasizing that he is a unique player.

The game began as a harbinger of records to come: Ohtani hit a double in his first at-bat, allowing him to steal his 50th base of the season. He then hit his 50th home run, followed by two more, bringing his total to 51. Not only did it set a new Dodgers record for home runs in a season, but it also helped the team secure its 12th consecutive playoff appearance.

Players on both teams were in awe of what they saw. Dodgers shortstop Miguel Rojas said he was lucky to be there to witness the historic moment. On the other hand, Marlins manager Skip Shoemaker chose not to intentionally pull Ohtani at a key moment in the game, showing respect for his talent and, he noted, for baseball in general.

Despite the small crowd at LoanDepot Park, they witnessed a performance worthy of a standing ovation. Dodgers players celebrated by wearing pre-made 50-50 Club T-shirts. Ohtani himself remained humble, saying that while he was pleased to reach this milestone, the hype surrounding the changeup was a bit of a changeup for him.

The historic moment also solidified Ohtani as a leading contender for the National League MVP award. Despite the personal struggles he has faced off the field in recent months, his on-field success remains unmatched.

Meanwhile, his former translator, Ippei Mizuhara, pleaded guilty to stealing millions of dollars from Ohtani to cover his gambling debts. Mizuhara faces up to 33 years in prison after admitting he used access to the gambler's bank accounts to pay off debts on more than 19,000 bets.
