A lucky ticket holder from Florida won a record-breaking Mega Millions jackpot after Tuesday's lottery draw. The jackpot was able to last for quite some time, exceeding $1 billion, before finally the lucky winner matched all the white balls and the golden Megaball in the 31st draw on August 8, 2023. The lucky winner correctly guessed all the white balls 13, 19, 20, 32 and 33, as well as the golden Megaball 14.
This allowed the lucky winner to hit the jackpot, which is estimated at $1.58 billion or $783.3 million in cash. There was a single winning mega jackpot ticket estimated to be a new record for a Mega Millions game. The latest jackpot is expected to surpass the previous record of $1.537 billion set in October 2018 by a lucky South Carolina winner.
In the 31 draws leading up to the jackpot, approximately 43.7 million winners have received prizes at all levels. This includes a total of 69 second-tier prizes worth $1 million or more won in 28 different jurisdictions in the United States including California, New Jersey, Florida, Iowa, New York and many more.
More than 7 million lucky people collect various prizesA total of 7,056,452 winning tickets were awarded in the August 8 draw across all prize tier levels. In the last draw, seven winners guessed all the white numbers correctly. While five of those winners received $1 million each, two lucky winners paid an extra $1 for the Megaplier, which doubled their prize to $2 million each.
About 166 lucky Mega Millions players correctly matched the four white balls and the golden Mega Ball. Of that total, 28 used the Megaplier, earning a $20,000 prize each, while the rest went home with a $10,000 prize each.
