Florida Begins Process to Select Contractor for Responsible Gambling Program
With sports betting already legal in the state through the Hard Rock Bet brand, the Florida Gaming Control Commission (FGCC) is seeking a partner that can provide the necessary resources and services to help individuals suffering from gambling addiction and prevent problems related to it.
The FGCC issued a public statement emphasizing its commitment to ensuring access to legal gaming and sports betting for Floridians and tourists while providing the necessary resources to prevent inappropriate gambling behavior and addiction.
“My colleagues and I look forward to the outcome of this process to provide progressive resources and services that will have a significant impact on Florida,” said FGCC Vice Chair Julie I. Brown.
Once the contractor responsible for the anti-gambling programs is selected, it will be responsible for developing an advertising campaign to promote responsible gambling, as well as a hotline and other materials to help protect players from potential harm.
The changing gambling landscape requires stronger anti-addiction efforts
FGCC Executive Director Lou Trombetta noted that given the changes in the legal betting and gambling landscape in the state, the regulator recognizes the need for adaptive solutions to address problem gambling.
Trombetta also highlighted the importance of the black market, which has a negative impact on consumers. He added, “As the legal gambling and sports betting landscape in Florida changes and illegal gambling venues and sites emerge, we recognize the need for adaptive solutions and broad capabilities in our compulsive or addictive gambling prevention program.” Ultimately, the use of FGCC problem gambling and responsible gaming resources should reach a broad range of demographics and help those who are most vulnerable and in need of support.
