The popular Mega Millions lottery, played in 45 US states, as well as Washington DC and the Virgin Islands, is preparing for significant changes. The company has confirmed that ticket prices will increase from April 2025. But along with this price increase, new improvements will be offered to make the game even more attractive.

Ticket prices will increase to $5 from April

Mega Millions Consortium CEO Joshua Johnston said the game will become even more interesting for both new and returning players. He stressed that more billion-dollar jackpots are expected, giving more people the chance to become millionaires. Johnston also confirmed that the game will continue its tradition of donating a portion of its proceeds to charities in the regions where it is played.

“We are creating a game that will appeal to both our regular players and new players alike. It will provide them with a real sense of excitement and fun,” Johnston said.

Starting in April, the price of a Mega Millions ticket will increase from $2 to $5. This more than double increase will be only the second price adjustment in the game’s more than two decades of history. The last change to the ticket price occurred in 2017, when the game’s new matrix was introduced.

What changes can Mega Millions players expect from April?

Starting in April, Mega Millions will introduce several significant innovations. In particular, starting jackpots will become larger, and jackpots will grow faster. In addition, large jackpots will be hit more often, and the odds of winning them will be better.

One of the key changes will be a built-in multiplier on every ticket that will multiply non-jackpot winnings by 2, 3, 4, 5, or even 10 times. The maximum non-jackpot win can be as much as $10 million for players who match five white balls. Also, according to Mega Millions, there will be no winnings equal to the cost of the ticket — each win will be larger. Mega Millions launched in 2002. Since its inception, the game has won a $1 billion jackpot six times. The next drawing is on October 8 at 11 p.m. ET, and the current jackpot is $129 million, or $62.3 million in cash.
