Barcelona are the reigning champions of La Liga, but defending the title is never easy. In addition, some of its main rivals (Real Madrid and Atlético Madrid) started the 2023-2024 campaign at top speed. Barcelona didn't do the same. Instead, the champions drew 0-0 with Getafe away in the first round.
They were the dominant side in that game, holding the ball in their possession 75% of the time. They also made 14 goal attempts (by comparison, Getafe made only five), but none of them scored. In practice, this means that they were great in midfield, but their attackers simply weren't accurate enough.
