The Baton Rouge Queen and Louisiana bookmaker DraftKings celebrated the grand opening of the new establishment over the weekend, which included a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by former NFL quarterback Matt Flynn.

In 2020, it was announced that the Queen Baton Rouge will undergo a complete renovation following its acquisition by Casino Queen Holding Company.

Originally operating as the Hollywood Casino Baton Rouge, a riverside casino, The Queen Baton Rouge is the first land-based casino in Baton Rouge.

The $85 million renovation spans over 100,000 square feet, which includes a range of dining, gaming and entertainment areas.

At the time of opening, four restaurants and bars were confirmed to open for The Queen Baton Rouge: The Loft at 1717, 3 Woks Noodle Bar, Big Chicken and Capitol Coffee.

As for the gaming room, The Queen Baton Rouge will have 700 slot machines and 18 gaming tables, as well as a special elevated smoking area with 100 slot machines, six table games and a bar.

The DraftKings bookmaker will have 20 betting kiosks, four staffed betting windows and a 28-foot-wide video wall that will broadcast sports to customers.

The venue's opening ceremony was attended by Terry Downey, CEO and President of The Queen Gaming & Entertainment; Sharon Weston Broom, Mayor President of Baton Rouge; Matthew Shehady, General Manager of the Queen Baton Rouge Hotel; Matt Flynn, former LSU Tiger and NFL quarterback, and Ronnie Jones, chairman of the Louisiana Gambling Control Board.

In the second quarter, DraftKings announced a 90% increase in annual revenue, as well as a significant reduction in operating losses.
