In the world of sports betting, Indiana is making headlines
once again. The state's sports betting handle for the month of August reached
an impressive $238.1 million, creating a buzz in the industry. What's even more
remarkable is that this figure closely mirrors the handle from August 2022,
which stood at $238 million. Additionally, it marks a substantial 16.8%
increase compared to July of this year, when the handle was $203.8 million.
The Indiana Gaming Commission reports that the taxable
adjusted gross revenue for August amounted to $23.5 million. While this
represents a decrease of 7.5% compared to last August's revenue of $25.4
million, it's still a substantial sum.
Leading the charge in Indiana's sports betting market are
Blue Chip Casino and their partner FanDuel, who raked in $8.5 million in
revenue with a handle of $71.1 million. Ameristar Casino and DraftKings, on the
other hand, boasted a higher handle at $95.6 million but fell slightly behind
in revenue with $7.7 million. Notably, Belterra Casino, in partnership with
FanDuel, secured the third position with $2.7 million in revenue generated from
$20.5 million in bets.
When it comes to the sports that captured the hearts of
Indiana bettors, baseball emerged as the clear favorite, attracting $66.8
million in bets. Basketball followed closely behind with a total of $19.8
million, and football wasn't far behind with $17.3 million in bets. Meanwhile,
other sports collectively drew in $63 million in wagers, demonstrating the
diverse interests of Indiana's sports enthusiasts. Additionally, a significant
$70.7 million was spent on parlay bets, highlighting the popularity of this
particular betting style.
It's worth noting
that the state benefited from this surge in sports betting activity, collecting
$2.2 million in sports betting tax revenue during the month. The Indiana sports
betting landscape continues to thrive, with no signs of slowing down.
