In a major development, the German gambling regulator, Gemeinsame Glücksspielbehörde der Länder (GGL), has slapped a hefty €50,000 fine on Red Rhino Ltd for engaging in illegal gambling activities within the German market.
The crackdown came after GGL issued a stern warning and prohibition order to Red Rhino Ltd, urging them to remove a specific offer that was directly targeting the German public on their platincasino.de website. Although the company did remove the offer from their German domain, it remained accessible to German customers through the company's platincasino.com domain.
Notably, a payment service provider that was collaborating with Red Rhino in the German market has also been fined for facilitating unlicensed gambling activities.
Benjamin Schwanke, a member of the GGL board, commented on the situation, saying, "The GGL's actions are making a significant impact, and we are witnessing a growing resistance against unauthorized online gambling activities."
Ronald Benter, another board member, added, "This aligns with our efforts to direct consumers towards legal gambling options. It is crucial that consumers ensure they exclusively use legal online gambling platforms, as these adhere to strict legal standards under the vigilant supervision of the GGL."
It's important to note that Red Rhino's penalty could increase if they fail to take prompt action to withdraw from the local market.
Germany currently boasts the second-highest number of active gamblers globally, with a staggering 29 million individuals regularly engaging in gambling activities.
