Frankie Dettori, the renowned jockey, has sent shockwaves through the betting industry, costing bookmakers a staggering £400 million with his Classic wins. But he's not done yet. Dettori is set to make his last Classic run in the Betfred St Leger on Saturday, September 16, marking the conclusion of his illustrious 35-year career in the saddle.

With 23 Classic victories under his belt, Dettori has proven to be a thorn in the side of bookies, nearly emptying their coffers. The stakes are high as he rides the 10/3 shot Arrest, and if he triumphs, it could add another dent to the bookmakers' fortunes.

Betfred, the event's sponsor, has gone all out to celebrate Dettori's farewell. In Doncaster, a massive retirement card has been unveiled, inviting fans to leave their messages of support on the three-meter high tribute.

This day will undoubtedly be an emotional one for the Milan-born sports icon, who plans to spend more quality time with his wife and five children starting in 2024.

Fred Done, the boss of Betfred, remarked, "Frankie has been fantastic for racing and will leave a big hole in the weighing room when he goes. The 23 Classic winners have cost us a few quid, but it's been a privilege to witness the career of a legend. As always, he's going to be popular with the punters in the Betfred St Leger, but I would be happy to pay out on another flying dismount."

Dettori himself had this to say about his decision to retire: "It's something that I've been thinking about for a while. This is going to be my finale next year. It is a very difficult decision because my heart wants to carry on riding, but I have had to use my brain, and I've just turned 52, and next year I'll be 53. I want to be competitive enough to do my owners and my horses justice next year, and I think I'm still in that bracket of being good. It was difficult, but it is the right time."
