In a shocking turn of events, Scott Sibella has been dismissed from his role as president and COO of Resorts World, following alleged violations of the company's policies. This announcement was made by the Las Vegas Strip casino resort on Friday, September 15.

Peter LaVoie, who previously served as senior VP and chief financial officer of Resorts World, has stepped in as the new CEO of the company. It remains uncertain whether this change is permanent or temporary.

This development comes six weeks after the Nevada Current initially reported on an illegal sports betting operation. Current and former employees of Las Vegas resorts were allegedly involved in this ring, leaking confidential customer information and using casino resources to settle personal gambling debts.

An anonymous Nevada state employee revealed to the Current that investigators were looking into Sibella's actions in connection with this ring during his tenure as president and COO of the MGM Grand from 2010 to 2019.

The ring's leader was identified as Wayne Nix, a former minor league baseball player. In April 2022, Nix pleaded guilty to running the operation and failing to report $1.4 million in earnings for 2017 and 2018. He agreed to pay back taxes and interest totaling $1.25 million, in addition to forfeiting $1.3 million seized from his bank account. Nix is also facing a potential eight-year prison sentence. Court documents revealed that Nix's ring operated for nearly two decades, employing former professional athletes as bookies and counting active NFL and MLB players among its clients.
