Fanatics is gearing up to introduce Fanatics Casino in U.S. states where gambling is legal by the end of 2023 or early next year.
In mid-August, Fanatics Holding's online and retail sports betting division, Fanatics Betting and Gaming, successfully completed a six-month beta-testing phase for the Fanatics Sportsbook app, with the official launch occurring in Tennessee on March 2. Ohio, Massachusetts, and Maryland followed suit shortly thereafter.
During the same month, the sports merchandise company revealed plans to enhance its sports wagering loyalty platform by launching collectibles and trading cards as part of the rewards program.
Now, according to Ari Borod, Chief Business Officer at Fanatics Betting & Gaming, the launch of an iCasino is on the horizon. While Fanatics remains firmly committed to sports, online casino gaming has become an integral part of their long-term strategy.
Catering to Customer Desires
Viewing iCasinos as a lucrative venture in the long run, Borod believes that Fanatics should cater to the needs of bettors who also enjoy playing online blackjack on their mobile devices, thereby preventing them from taking their business elsewhere.
Consequently, the company aims to "give the customer what they want," which entails launching an online casino in U.S. states where casino gambling is permitted by lawmakers.
Fanatics does not intend to rush the product to market, as it's no longer feasible to be the first in this arena. Instead, their primary goal is to excel and become the best in the industry. Borod is optimistic that their new strategy will pay off, especially considering the lack of significant innovation in the online casino world.
The Big iCasino Launch Expected Soon
None of the four states where Fanatics introduced its sportsbook app currently allow legal casino gambling. Consequently, there's no immediate need to launch an iCasino in those states.
However, Fanatics now prioritizes the development of its virtual gambling venue, aiming to launch it in states like Michigan, West Virginia, and Pennsylvania, where online casinos are already legal and operational. The significant launch is slated for either the end of this year or the beginning of the next, depending on the product's readiness, as stated by Borod during a recent Gamble On podcast episode.
The Chief Business Officer also emphasized that the company would demonstrate the same level of commitment to improving both its casino and sports products simultaneously.
It's reasonable to assume that Fanatics will subject its iCasino products to rigorous and extensive beta testing, much like it did with its mobile sportsbook app before granting it the green light for launch.
Earlier this month, Fanatics appointed Andrew Low Ah Kee, a former executive at Opendoor, as the CEO of its $5 billion sports merchandise business.
