David Hengen has struck gold once again in the World Series of Poker Circuit. Hailing from Nebraska, Hengen outshone 352 competitors at the WSOP Circuit Horseshoe Council Bluffs main event in Iowa, just a stone's throw away from his hometown of Omaha. His victory in the $1,700 buy-in no-limit hold’em event earned him a staggering $116,846, marking his biggest tournament payday to date and securing his fourth WSOPC gold ring.

Hengen's total tournament earnings now exceed $567,000, with over $365,000 attributed to his remarkable performance in WSOPC events. Celebrating his win, Hengen revealed his plans for a special family trip to Savannah, Georgia, to commemorate his 15th wedding anniversary and his son's 14th birthday. A momentous occasion indeed!

In addition to the fame and fortune, Hengen also pocketed 600 Card Player Player of the Year points for triumphing in this event. This achievement marked his second final table finish this year, having previously secured third place in a $400 buy-in preliminary ring event during the same series, adding $10,021 to his bankroll along with 128 points.

With an impressive total of 728 points for the year, Hengen now occupies a place among the top 1,000 players in the 2023 POY standings presented by Global Poker.

This event featured two starting flights, drawing in 173 and 179 participants, respectively. Out of the 252 players who made it to day 2, an impressive 53 of them managed to cash.

The final showdown commenced with only six contenders left, with Timothy Garles, a 14-time WSOPC ring winner, leading the pack. Daniel Lowery, another WSOPC ring holder, dominated the early action, eliminating Matthew Dodd (6th – $21,097) and Garles (5th – $28,011) to climb to the top of the chip leaderboard.

The 84-year-old Michael Henery was the next to bow out, going all-in on a board of 9Heart Suit7Heart Suit6Diamond Suit8Heart Suit with ASpade Suit5Spade Suit, only to be defeated by former poker journalist and two-time WSOPC ring winner Mo Nuwwarah, who held AHeart Suit10Diamond Suit for a higher straight with the nut-flush redraw. A final 8Spade Suit on the river sealed Henery's fate, securing him a fourth-place finish and $37,801 in winnings.

Nuwwarah soon seized the chip lead, with his pocket aces prevailing against Lowery's ace-jack in a preflop all-in clash. Their roles reversed in their next encounter, but Nuwwarah was the one wielding aces. Despite this advantage, Nuwwarah's ADiamond SuitAClub Suit was outdone by Nuwwarah's 9Diamond Suit9Club Suit, which improved to a set on the river, sending Lowery packing in third place ($51,838). Lowery now boasts over $1,593,000 in recorded WSOPC earnings and nearly $2.5 million in overall tournament winnings.

This marked Lowery's 12th final table appearance of the year, with four titles and more than $400,000 in POY earnings to his name, propelling him to 75th place in the overall POY standings.

Although Nuwwarah began heads-up play with a substantial chip lead, Hengen swiftly narrowed the gap with two rapid double-ups. He then surged ahead, securing the title with a triumphant pot featuring a set of fives that bested Nuwwarah's eights and deuces. Shortly thereafter, Hengen, holding ADiamond SuitKClub Suit, raised on the button, and Nuwwarah responded with a three-bet shove, wielding 3Heart Suit3Diamond Suit. Hengen made the call, and the board unveiled KDiamond SuitQClub Suit9Heart SuitAClub Suit6Spade Suit, granting Hengen aces up and the coveted championship title.

Nuwwarah was graciously awarded $72,216 as the runner-up, marking his highest live tournament earnings to date, with his total recorded cashes now exceeding $371,000.
