Skipton, UK - The Incredible Edible Skipton volunteer group is overjoyed to announce their recent windfall of nearly £10,000 from the National Lottery community fund. This generous grant will enable them to continue their mission of cultivating fresh produce, including vegetables, fruits, and herbs, all free for the taking by anyone in the Skipton community.

Since its inception in 2018, Incredible Edible has been driven solely by the dedication of volunteers. Their base of operations is located at the Middletown Allotments, courtesy of the town council, and they also maintain a community orchard on Middletown recreation ground, established in 2021.

Beyond providing Skipton residents with access to wholesome, organic food, this initiative fosters a spirit of sharing and caring within the community. The raised beds, scattered throughout the town, not only contribute to the well-being of residents but also benefit local wildlife and enhance the town's aesthetic appeal.

According to a group spokesperson, "We plan to allocate some of the grant towards enhancing the community orchard on the Middletown 'Rec' behind Greatwood school."

In an exciting development, Skipton will host its first 'apple day' at Middletown Rec on October 22, from 12 to 3 pm. The event will feature an apple press for juice making, a smoothie bike, children's activities, and various apple-themed treats. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own apples and bottles to create freshly squeezed juice.

The spokesperson also extended an open invitation, stating, "Incredible Edible Skipton welcomes new volunteers of all ages to join our friendly group throughout the year." Work parties are held at the community allotment every first and third Saturday of the month from 10 am to 12 noon, and every Wednesday, currently from 6 pm to 7 pm, transitioning to 10 am to 11:30 am starting October 1.

Incredible Edible collaborates with other Skipton organizations, including the scouts, St. Andrew’s Church, Christ Church, Skipton in Bloom, and the Civic Society. This initiative is part of the global Incredible Edible network, which boasts over 100 groups in the UK. Their overarching vision is to create compassionate, confident, and interconnected communities through the power of food.
