Betfair, an international betting exchange offering bets on politics, said UK bettors believe the Conservatives are losing their momentum. According to statistics, clients believe the party could lose a whopping 201 seats or more in the next general election.

Although Betfair customers would not necessarily be right, they have previously correctly predicted some outcomes, such as Liz Truss' resignation.

However, such a shake-up would mean big changes in British politics. For reference, the only time the Conservatives have lost more than 200 seats in the last hundred years was the 1945 election.

Betfair data shows that over £3 million was traded at the next general election. Consumers appear to be favoring Sir Keir Starmer's party, believing it will outperform Rishi Sunak and the Conservatives.

Players believe Labor will win
Sam Rosbottom, a spokesman for Betfair Politics, commented on the results, saying that punters seemed quite confident about the outcome of the next general election. He noted that the Labor Party is growing stronger and is the 8/15 favorite to win a majority.

Rosbottom noted that if the players are right, the only thing Sunak and the Conservatives can hope to achieve before the election is to minimize the damage.

As well as difficulties during his election campaign, Sunak also faced difficulties in reaching agreement on key policy issues with senior ministers. He now risks Labor forming government if they manage to win 130 or more seats. Although this is not an easy task, Betfair customers suggest that conservatives should definitely take this result into account.

Labor Party on the rise
Additional data from Betfair shows that customers believe the next general election will take place between October and December 2024 (priced at 4/9). As mentioned, the Labor Party is favorite to win the election with a score of 8/15. Meanwhile, according to the players, the Conservative Party has only a small chance of maintaining its majority (10/1).

Rosbotton concluded that punters believe the Conservatives will lose more than 201 points at 5/2. He added that the Labor Party is now redoubled efforts to win support in Scotland and is the overwhelming favorite to take the Scottish National Party seat by 1/20.
