Kansas Sets New Sports Betting Record with $219.3 Million Wagered in September

Kansas entered the legal sports betting arena in September the previous year, and it's been nothing but success since. In the inaugural month, players placed bets amounting to $160.5 million, a remarkable 36.6% increase compared to the same period in the previous year.

September 2023 witnessed an even more astonishing figure, with a total of $219.3 million wagered. This was a substantial 132.3% surge from August 2023, where the betting volume stood at $94.4 million. Furthermore, this September record outshone the previous highest figure of $206.3 million set in March the same year, by an impressive 6.3%.

The preference for online sports betting remains apparent, as a staggering $201.1 million of all bets placed in September were made through online platforms. The remaining $18.2 million was spent at brick-and-mortar sportsbooks.

Revenue in September reached $8.1 million, displaying a significant increase of 523.1% compared to the same month in the previous year when it was at $1.3 million. Moreover, it was 68.8% higher than the $4.8 million generated in August.

Analyzing the monthly performance, Boot Hill Casino and its partner DraftKings maintained their position as the leaders in the online market. They managed a handle of $97.2 million in September, with revenue amounting to $3.3 million.

Kansas Star Casino and FanDuel followed closely with a handle of $54.5 million and total revenue of $3.0 million. The top three was completed by Kansas Crossing Casino and BetMGM, with a handle of $21.4 million and revenue of $813,946.

In the retail segment, Hollywood Casino at Kansas Speedway, in collaboration with Barstool, remained the prominent market leaders. Players wagered $16.0 million at this venue, contributing to revenue reaching $393,485. Kansas Star, with its FanDuel retail sportsbook, secured the second position with a handle of $1.2 million and revenue of $11,717.

During the month, the state collected $484,366 in taxes, with $760,163 coming from online tax and $45,934 from retail taxes. These numbers highlight the positive financial impact of the growing sports betting industry in Kansas.
