In September, the sports betting handle in Indiana reached an impressive $404.1 million, marking a 5.7% increase from $382.5 million the previous year. Furthermore, it surged by 69.7% compared to the $238.1 million wagered in August of the same year.
The allure of the new NFL season drew bettors, with a total of $155.4 million wagered on football during the month. Baseball also had its share of popularity, attracting $50.3 million in bets, followed by basketball with $10.4 million. Additionally, parlay bets saw $124.8 million in action, while other sports accounted for $62.9 million in wagers.
As for taxable adjusted gross revenue, it amounted to $41.1 million, marking a 19.7% decrease from September 2022 but a significant 74.9% increase from August of the same year.
Ameristar Casino and DraftKings Lead in Indiana
In terms of individual operators, Ameristar Casino and DraftKings emerged as leaders in the Indiana market in September. Their partnership yielded $15.6 million in revenue from $171.2 million in wagers. Previous market leaders Blue Chip Casino and FanDuel secured the second position with $15.1 million in revenue and a handle of $124.8 million for the month.
Belterra Casino, another partner of FanDuel, clinched the third spot in September, generating $3.8 million from $33.7 million in sports bets.
During the month, Indiana collected $4.0 million in sports betting taxes, with a significant portion of nearly $3.0 million coming from Ameristar Casino and Blue Chip Casino.
