Italian Serie A club Juventus has found itself in the midst of a betting scandal as reports circulate about one of their players, Nicolò Fagioli, being embroiled in an unauthorized gambling dispute. This incident has sparked considerable attention in the world of football.

The controversy initially surfaced when it was revealed that several Italian players, including Nicolò Fagioli, had allegedly placed bets through an unapproved gambling website. Notably, Sandro Tonali of Newcastle United in the English Premier League and Nicolò Zaniolo, currently on loan at Premier League side Aston Villa from Turkish Süper Lig club Galatasaray, were the first two players to be named in connection with the case. Allegations against Fagioli came to light shortly thereafter.

The Italian Football Federation (FIGC) responded swiftly to these allegations by sending two players, Tonali and Zaniolo, back to their respective clubs during their national team duty. The FIGC did not disclose the specific reasons for this action but mentioned that it was related to an investigation conducted by the Turin Public Prosecutor's Office. Reports suggest that this investigation pertains to the unauthorized betting activities.

In a statement issued by the FIGC, it was stated, "Regardless of the nature of the acts, believing that in this situation the two players are not in the necessary condition to face the commitments scheduled in the next few days, the Federation has decided, also to protect them, to allow them to return to their respective clubs."

Juventus has taken a proactive stance in response to the reports, revealing that they had immediately contacted the FIGC Federal Prosecutor's Office upon learning of the potential involvement of their player, Nicolò Fagioli, in the betting controversy. This demonstrates the club's commitment to addressing the situation head-on.

As of now, neither Newcastle United nor Aston Villa has issued a response to these reports. The Turin Public Prosecutor's Office has been approached for comments regarding the ongoing investigation.

Italy recently secured a 4-0 victory against Malta in a Euro 2024 qualifying match over the weekend. The Azzuri are set to face England tomorrow in another qualifier for the upcoming tournament, adding further intrigue to this unfolding story.
