August Figures Show Resilience
In August, Arizona saw a total betting frenzy with bettors wagering $354.6 million on various sports events online and an additional $3.4 million at retail locations across the state. The players' winnings amounted to $327.2 million, resulting in adjusted gross event wagering receipts of $30.9 million before accounting for free bets. It's important to note that this figure is 10.7% lower than August last year, with $30.2 million coming from online betting and $606,731 from retail locations.

Rising Free Bets
A noteworthy aspect of this report is the impact of free bets and promotional credits, which hit a staggering $9.5 million in August, compared to $8.5 million in the same month last year. Almost all of this amount was generated from online betting. When we subtract these free bets, the adjusted gross event wagering receipts stood at $21.4 million, marking a significant 23.0% decrease compared to the previous year and 20.2% lower than in August 2023.

Online Dominance
Online sports betting dominated the Arizona market, contributing a substantial $20.8 million to the state's total, while retail locations chipped in with $600,727.

Tax Revenue Breakdown
The sports betting tax revenue for August reached $2.1 million, with mobile bets contributing the majority, taxed at a rate of 10%. The remaining $48,058 came from retail bets, taxed at 8%.
