The PGA Tour Integrity Programme explicitly states that players are not allowed to wager on any professional golf competition or event, and this rule has been strictly enforced. It has been confirmed that neither India nor Staiano bet on competitions in which they were competing. However, details regarding the specific events they bet on and the nature of their wagers remain unclear.

India, a 34-year-old US-based player who turned professional in 2011, is currently ranked 936th in the Official World Golf Rankings (OWGR). He will serve a six-month suspension from PGA Tour-sanctioned events, which is backdated to September 18 and will last until March 17 of the following year. On the other hand, Staiano, a 26-year-old American professional who began his career in 2019, does not hold an OWGR placement and will face a three-month suspension from PGA Tour-sanctioned competitions, effective from September 11 to December 10.

The PGA Tour has made no additional comments regarding these suspensions at this time.

This incident is not isolated, as the world of sports has seen an increase in betting-related bans. The National Hockey League (NHL) recently suspended Shane Pinto for 41 matches due to his violation of sports betting rules. Pinto, a player for the Ottawa Senators since 2021, became the first NHL player to be banned for betting on sports since the repeal of PASPA in mid-2018. While the NHL allows players to bet on activities outside the league, there is no evidence suggesting that Pinto bet on an NHL game. In response to the suspension, Pinto issued a public apology for his actions.

The National Football League (NFL) has also taken a strong stance against betting rule breaches among its players. Denver Broncos player Eyioma Uwazurike faced an indefinite suspension in July for betting on NFL games during the 2022 season. Earlier in the year, four other NFL players were suspended for betting breaches, including Isaiah Rodgers and Rashod Berry of the Indianapolis Colts, Demetrius Taylor (a free agent), and Nicholas Petit-Frere, who received a six-game suspension. In April, five more players were suspended for breaching the NFL's betting policy, including Jameson Williams, Quintez Cephus, Stanley Berryhill, CJ Moore of the Detroit Lions, and Shaka Toney of the Washington Commanders.
