A New High-Profile Stadium May Be Just What the Region Needs
The Oakland Athletics (A’s) are on the move, and Las Vegas is set to gain a high-profile MLB stadium. With their current ballpark lease in Oakland expiring, construction on the new stadium must begin no later than April 2025 to ensure it's ready for the 2028 season. The A's have partnered with Bally’s to repurpose the Tropicana into a state-of-the-art baseball stadium. Gaming and Leisure Properties (GLPI) has committed $175 million for the stadium project, with the A’s looking to secure the remaining $1.1 billion required.

The Tropicana Was Not Doing So Well
The Tropicana has a storied history in Las Vegas, intertwined with tales of mob figures and skimming operations. However, in recent years, the resort's reputation has dwindled, making it one of the city's least desirable destinations. The lack of investment led to outdated facilities, dirty rooms, and even a bed bug outbreak. GLPI is considering reinvestment in the resort, pending the completion of the new stadium project.

The anticipated demolition of the current Tropicana signifies the end of an era in Las Vegas history. If the new A's stadium proves successful, it could rejuvenate the iconic casino resort, breathing new life into the heart of the city's entertainment scene.
