In a shocking turn of events, a major heist unfolded at Genting Highlands, one of Genting Malaysia's premier gaming properties. Late last month, the casino security discovered a break-in, with one of the rooms holding casino chips being the target. On October 28, 2023, the Genting Highlands management reported the breach to the local police.

Upon investigation, the authorities managed to identify multiple suspects allegedly involved in the theft. Subsequently, several raids were conducted, leading to the arrest of 10 individuals. The exact nature of their involvement in the theft is still under investigation, and the role each alleged culprit played remains unclear.

Bentong OCPD Supt Zaiham Mohd Kahar, who oversees the investigation, confirmed the casino's report of the theft, revealing that approximately MYR4.6 million ($1 million) worth of casino chips had been stolen. However, he refrained from disclosing further details, stating that the investigation is ongoing. Mohd Kahar did suggest that the possibility of an inside job cannot be ruled out.

"I can't divulge much as it could jeopardize our investigation, but I can say that several suspects have been identified," said Bentong OCPD Supt Zaiham Mohd Kahar.

This incident follows a recent crackdown on illegal gambling in Malaysia, where law enforcement arrested nearly 2,000 individuals suspected of involvement in illegal lottery and online gambling activities. The operation, which took place from September 22 to October 5, 2023, resulted in the arrest of 1,871 people across the country. Those apprehended ranged from 20 to 60 years old, with both men and women among them. While some have already been charged in court, investigations against others are ongoing.
