The Casino Encounter:
In 2016, billionaire James Packer faced an assault accusation from security guard Dr Iskandar Chaban at Crown Melbourne. The incident occurred when Chaban failed to recognize Packer, mistaking him for an intoxicated casino goer. The disagreement escalated as Packer, holding a controlling stake in Crown Resorts, allegedly pushed and berated the older guard.
The Fallout:
Following the altercation, Chaban suffered neck and back injuries, along with post-traumatic stress disorder from alleged bullying. Packer and Crown Resorts settled the initial lawsuit for AUD 100,000, including legal costs. However, the renewed legal battle claims they did not cover Chaban's AUD 185,000 lawyer fees and AUD 77,000 lawsuit costs.
Disputed Settlement:
Crown Resorts denies breaching the settlement, as the Victorian Supreme Court orders both parties to mediation in December. The unresolved legal matters continue to cast a shadow over Packer's reputation.
