MGM Grand Casino Workers Stand Firm as Strike Persists

Last month, over 3,700 unionized casino workers in Detroit launched a strike for improved conditions, including pay raises and job security. Recently, Hollywood Casino at Greektown and MotorCity Casino workers concluded their protest with historic gains. However, MGM Grand Casino employees rejected the proposed contract, prolonging their strike.
The Resolution and Rejection
On November 19, 2023, Hollywood Casino at Greektown and MotorCity Casino employees embraced a new contract with remarkable wage increases. Astonishingly, MGM Grand Casino workers, under the same terms, refused the deal, leading to an ongoing strike.

Despite the setback, negotiations are back underway. Unions disclosed their return to the negotiation table with MGM Grand Casino. A new proposal from the striking workers awaits a response from the casino operator.

The Detroit Casino Council clarified that separate votes were held at each casino property for the proposed five-year gaming contracts.
