A Defeat in More Ways Than One

As the European Poker Tour (EPT) Prague Main Event approached its climax, tensions ran high at Table 12. The drama unfolded when Michele Nizzardelli's controversial move on the river ignited tempers. His unexpected win against Ghattas Kortas set the stage for what would become a regrettable incident.

Visibly infuriated by his loss, Kortas snatched Nizzardelli's hat and began to walk away. Seemingly provoked, Nizzardelli responded by shoving Kortas from behind, causing him to stumble. As Kortas turned, irate, Nizzardelli raised his hands defensively before suddenly headbutting him, striking his nose and sending him to the floor.

Security quickly intervened, escorting Nizzardelli out of the tournament room. His stack was removed from the table, and he was promptly disqualified from the event. PokerStars took further disciplinary action against both players, making it clear that such behavior would not be tolerated.

The Drama Only Bolstered the Event’s Popularity

Despite the shocking altercation, the EPT Prague Main Event continued to draw a significant crowd, with 1,250 players participating, nearly matching the previous year's record. On Wednesday, December 13th, Day 1 survivors and late registrants returned to the tables.

The event's real-time coverage and live streaming on PokerStars' social media channels allowed poker enthusiasts and fans to follow the action. Even newcomers could grasp the game's intricacies, thanks to cards-up coverage and commentary, albeit with a 30-minute delay for security reasons.

This unexpected physical confrontation only added to the EPT's allure, contributing another remarkable chapter to its history of success. High-profile tournaments like this exemplify PokerStars' winning formula, seamlessly blending digital content with thrilling face-to-face games to create excitement and attract new players.
