ACMA Exposes Violations

The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) recently exposed a breach of Australia's gambling regulations by several leading gambling companies. According to the ACMA, these operators were found guilty of using "Fast/Quick Codes" to enable in-play betting on sports events.

The Violators Identified

The list of violators included well-known names in the gambling industry, such as Entain's Ladbrokes and Neds, bet365, and Sportsbet. These operators were found to be using Fast/Quick Codes as a means to facilitate in-play betting, which is prohibited under the Interactive Gambling Act 2001, with only a few exceptions, including phone betting.

Rule Violation Details

In violation of the Act, these operators opted for the Fast/Quick code option instead of the required phone call method. These codes contained essential information, such as the event, bet selection, and bet type, allowing customers to easily relay their bets over the phone.

No Further Sanctions

Despite the violations, the ACMA decided not to impose additional sanctions on these companies, taking into account their quick response to rectify the situation. As a result, the operators have adjusted their Fast/Quick Codes to comply with local regulations. These codes will now be generic and generated before the start of sporting events, accessible to all customers.

The ACMA's recent findings serve as a reminder to all gambling companies to adhere to Australia's strict rules on in-play betting and ensure compliance with the Interactive Gambling Act 2001.
