ACMA Cracks Down on Illegal Gambling
The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) continues its fight against illegal online gambling activities within the country. In a recent move, ACMA has issued blocking orders against 11 offshore gambling and affiliate marketing websites that have been operating in Australia in violation of the Interactive Gambling Act 2001.
Websites in Violation
ACMA has identified these websites as Greenspin, Slotman, Jeetcity, Betibet, Candyland Casino, Thunderpick, Golden Lion, Digits 7, Sector 777, New Vegas, and PayID Pokies. Each of these sites was found to be in breach of Australian gambling regulations.
Blocking Orders Implemented
In response to these violations, ACMA has requested that Australian internet service providers (ISPs) block access to all the mentioned websites. ACMA possesses the authority to make such requests when operators offer prohibited interactive gambling services or run online gambling operations without a valid license.
Continued Enforcement Efforts
Since ACMA initiated its first blocking request in November 2019, a total of 893 illegal gambling and affiliate websites have been blocked. Additionally, 220 illegal services have exited the Australian market since the enforcement of new offshore gambling regulations in 2017.
ACMA emphasized that website blocking is just one of the measures taken to safeguard Australians from illegal online gambling activities. They also reminded consumers that seemingly legitimate services often lack crucial customer protections, putting users at risk of losing their money.
These 11 websites now join the growing list of brands facing blocking orders in Australia, as ACMA remains committed to curbing illegal online gambling activities within the country.
