IMG Secures Exclusive Media Rights for 85 CAF Territories Until 2025

IMG, a prominent player in the world of sports and media, has recently achieved a significant milestone by securing the exclusive distribution rights for international media coverage in over 85 territories belonging to the Confederation of African Football (CAF). This groundbreaking agreement, announced on December 11, heralds IMG's position as the sole distributor for the CAF territories from 2023 to 2025, marking a substantial step forward in their sports broadcasting endeavors.

The Scope of the Deal

Under this exclusive arrangement, IMG has been granted the privilege to manage broadcast deals for the next two editions of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). The highly anticipated tournament is scheduled to take place in the Ivory Coast early next year and subsequently in Morocco in 2025. Moreover, IMG also holds the rights to broadcast the qualifiers for these prestigious tournaments. The partnership extends beyond AFCON, encompassing other significant events such as the Women's AFCON in 2024 and the CAF Champions League.

Unlocking Greater Value

Robyn Cox, Vice President and Managing Director of IMG's media business, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration. Cox stated, "The TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations is the biggest event on the African Continent. It's one of football's most watched competitions." She further emphasized IMG's commitment to expanding their partnership with CAF to enhance the global viewership of these events, providing fans with an unparalleled viewing experience.

Strengthening the Partnership

In addition to this media rights deal, IMG recently inked an agreement to serve as the global sponsorship agency of CAF until 2025. This partnership not only brings fresh sponsorship opportunities to CAF but also includes IMG's provision of marketing, data, and consultancy services. IMG's reach in the sports world extends to various other regions, including their rights with CONCACAF, and their role in broadcasting the recent FIFA men's and women's World Cup on their Sport 24 channel.

As IMG continues to expand its presence in the sports and media landscape, this exclusive agreement with CAF is set to significantly impact the way African football is consumed and experienced across the globe.
