Jersey Gaming Revenue Decline Continues in H2 2023

Monthly Decline Persists

New Jersey's gaming industry witnessed a 9.4% surge in revenue, reaching $482.4 million in November 2023, as reported by the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement. While this was a significant year-on-year increase, it marked a decline from October's $487.1 million, with a $4.7 million drop.

Downward Trend

The decline in monthly revenue has been consistent, with October's figures lagging 6.6% behind September's $521.5 million. Casino win for the nine casino hotel properties showed a slight increase of 0.2%, primarily driven by a 2.7% boost in slot machine play, offsetting a 6.5% decrease in table games revenue.

Casino Performance

MGM Resorts' Borgata remained the top earner with a $51.7 million casino win, despite a 6.1% dip compared to November 2022. In contrast, Bally's experienced substantial year-on-year growth, with a casino win increase of over 20%.

Internet Gaming Thrives

Internet gaming in New Jersey reported a significant upturn, with a November win of $171.6 million, marking a 17.4% growth from the previous year. Golden Nugget led the way with a 32.9% year-on-year increase, totaling $50.1 million in internet gaming wins.

Sports Betting Flourishes

Sports wagering gross revenue surged to $95.9 million, reflecting a 19.2% increase compared to November 2022. Resorts Digital, which includes DraftKings and Fox Bet, reported the highest sports wagering gross revenue at $19.2 million, up 15.9% year-on-year. Total sports wagering handle for November hit $1.6 billion, a 45% increase from the previous year.

Year-to-Date Growth

Overall, New Jersey's gaming industry reported total revenue of $5.3 billion year-to-date, a 10.5% increase compared to the previous year. Casino win for the nine casino hotel properties rose by 1.8% to $2.6 billion, and internet gaming win increased by 15.4% to $1.7 billion during the same 11-month period. Sports wagering gross revenue for the year-to-date period reached $897.2 million, up 32.9%, with a total sports wagering handle of $10.7 billion, up 8.0%.
